Been to Bangkok too many times? Feel tired of all the fancy downtown?
If you want to experience more historical ruins and scenery, there are many highly recommended places around Bangkok. Let’s hit the road with KKday to the suburb of Bangkok and enjoy a different Thai Scenery.

# North of Bangkok- the old capital of Ayutthaya
When learning the history of Thailand, Ayutthaya, recognized internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an must-visit attraction. In Thai, Ayutthaya means the great city. As its name, it was the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom from 1350 to 1767, the strongest power in indochina peninsula during that period.

There used to have more than 400 temples and thousands of Buddha statues. Unfortunately, Ayutthaya was attacked in 1767 by the Burmese army. They burned and destroyed the city to the ground resulting in the collapse of the kingdom and Ayutthaya was forced to be forbidden by the citizens in the end.

In Thailand, the buddhism and the Thai culture have great influence in between. Both the Buddha and the palace in Ayutthaya illustrate the combination thoroughly. It is said that men in Thailand must become monk once in their lives for the peace of mind. When you travel around Thailand, you may see many monks here. So take your time Ayutthaya hanging around, enjoy the greatest history here.

# East of Bangkok- shopping in Ramkhamhaeng

There are many places to enjoy shopping in Bangkok and it is extremely cheap. For people (or girl...?) who love shopping, THIS IS HEAVEN! Ramkhamhaeng, the heaven of night market. With Ramkhamhaeng University, private schools and international schools surrounded, it is the first choice for locals to shop. There are shopping malls, department stores and a big night market. Take your time hanging around this area. Without lots of tourist, you don’t need to squeeze in crowd; instead, enjoy shopping with ease~

Tips: from Ramkhamhaeng Station, take a Tuk Tuk or taxi

# South of Bangkok- secret island, Koh Sichang

Koh Sichang, another attraction for beach besides Pattaya. It is one of the best 10 tropical islands for honeymooners listed by The Guardian (UK). On this island, you will never get bored with plenty of activities. You can go fishing, Kayaking, snorkeling, visit Sunset View Point to have the panoramic sea view with gorgeous sunset and finally have a really good seafood meal which Koh Sichang is famous for. Of course, there are culture attractions like temples and the Guanyin protecting the fisherman outside of the sea working hard.

# West of Bangkok- Historical View, River Kwai

2.5 hours driving from Bangkok, you can arrive to the movie spot, “The Bridge on the River Kwai.” During WW II, Japan forced the prisoners from allies to construct the meter-gauge railway line from Ban Pong, Thailand to Thanbyuzayat, Burma. This is now known as the Death Railway because of its construction difficulty. When passing by this, all the historical woes we learnt from book and the feelings become so real.

However, besides historical spots, the scenery is really beautiful along the river bank. You can also choose to have a lovely picnic with friends or experience outdoor activities like rafting, elephant interaction…etc. Enjoy a nice afternoon there.
